Rotarians from across District 5810 spent months collecting and packing donations and raising funds. Then we came together not only to celebrate fellowship and leadership during our recent 7 night District Conference International Service Cruise, but also to make a powerful difference through service projects that will have a lasting impact in two island communities—Cozumel, Mexico and Roatan, Honduras.

Cozumel: Mobility and Dignity Restored

In Cozumel, Rotarians delivered 25 fully stocked backpacks filled with school supplies and 37 new wheelchairs. Many participants called this the most impactful moment of the week. Watching someone be lifted into a new wheelchair—restoring their mobility and independence—moved many to tears. It was a powerful reminder of how a simple act of service and the low cost of a $150 donation can profoundly change a life. These moments of joy and gratitude underscored the true meaning of Rotary's mission to serve.

Roatan: Our Largest Delivery Yet

Meanwhile, Rotarians in Roatan are preparing to receive District 5810's largest shipment of donations ever—15 pallets filled with essential items, totaling over 14,000 pounds.

The full delivery includes:

18 new wheelchairs
20,243 recycled books
3,842 Days for Girls hygiene kits (which was a joint project with the Beaumont Rotary Club and District 5910)
555 pairs of shoes
287 assorted athletic balls
School supplies and other needed materials
13,760 pounds of goods will be in the upcoming shipment, added to 272 pounds delivered in January, totaling 14,032 pounds for Roatan.

This delivery represents more than just numbers—it’s about delivering opportunity, dignity, and joy to thousands of children and families. These gifts will support education, health, recreation, and mobility for communities that face everyday challenges with limited resources.

Service with Purpose

Our time together during the Conference included two full days of service, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Whether we were meeting local school children, funding a water project, planting fruit trees in a school yard, lifting a wheelchair into a waiting van or packing supplies into backpacks, every action taken was fueled by Rotary’s belief in “Service Above Self.”

These projects reflect the heart of our District’s commitment—to bring hope, build peace, and create change in communities near and far.
