With district discretionary funding (DDF) the Rotary Club of Leavenworth was able to impact ten schools in the local community by promoting mental health awareness. Elementary school-aged books were placed in each of the school libraries.

These books will help children understand that it is okay to not have a good day or to think about what it is to check your bucket levels about things going on in your life. The two books purchased were "How Full is Your Bucket," and "The Energy Bus." A brief synopsis of each book follows - every moment matters and each of us has an invisible bucket. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it's empty, we feel awful. Yet most children (and many adults) don't realize the importance of having a full bucket throughout the day. Showing kids how to stay positive and overcome negativity along with dealing with bullies and everyday challenges. The story also teaches kids how to find their positive motivation and pass that positive energy to others. These books are designed to help students, parents, and educators identify, understand, and resolve mental health issues at a young age. These books have helped students in our area so much that local librarians have recommended that the adult version of these two books be purchased so students can share this information with their parents.
