Rotarians from across two Texas Rotary districts came together in San Marcos from May 2â4 for a joint celebration titled âA Celebration of Districts.â District 5870, which spans Central Texas from Austin to Hillsboro and Corsicana, joined forces with District 5840, which covers South Central Texas from Del Rio to Kyle and west to Junction. The event took place at the Embassy Suites Conference Center.
A highlight of the conference was a hands-on service project held on May 3. Rotarians partnered with San Marcos School Fuel, a local all-volunteer nonprofit, to pack weekend food bags for students in need. School Fuel supports over 1,400 Kâ12 students in the San Marcos School District, providing bags filled with nonperishable food items to ensure children have access to meals over the weekend when school meals are unavailable.
More than 60 Rotarians rolled up their sleeves to bag and box food, which was delivered to schools that Friday morning and handed out to students later that afternoon. The project is funded through community donations and grants, demonstrating how collaboration and service go hand in hand in Rotary.
