Rotarians from the Rotary Club of West Bend Sunrise (District 6270) and the Rotary Club of Zenica came together to transform sports accessibility and community inclusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through the Bridge to Diversity Project, funded by Rotary, USAID, and multiple district partners, they renovated courts to host the country’s first-ever wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball tournaments—shining a light on athletes with disabilities and advocating for long-term inclusion. But this project did more than build facilities.
It built peace.

By bringing together local leaders, disability advocates, international partners, and government officials, the project opened up new pathways for understanding, collaboration, and healing in a country still shaped by the legacy of war. Educational workshops and public campaigns helped shift public attitudes, while lasting friendships between Rotarians across borders served as a reminder: peace isn’t just a treaty—it’s an ongoing act of inclusion.
“This project achieved all three set goals: visibility, inclusion, and advocacy.” – Senad Dizdarević, RC Zenica
